“I HAD FREE TIME TO WRITE AND CREATE”
– EMBERS OF LIGHT
BEST USE OF YOUR TIME, EMBERS OF LIGHT SHINES ON NEW PROJECT
Embers of Light is a Drum and Bass musician and producer hailing from the UK. Embers of Light now resides in Canada, and calls Saskatoon home. Embers of Light released a 15-track LP in 2019 titled ‘Caught in Deep Thought’ through Four Corners Music. With early 2020 releases ‘Heads Bass Volume 2 Part 1’ (Beats in Mind) and ‘Your The Real One’ (Soul Deep Recordings), this pushed Embers of Light to create more music in isolation during quarantine. Releasing the 16-track album titled ‘Everything Changes’ through Soul Deep Recordings on November 17th 2020. The new album is smooth, and effortlessly guides you through all 16 tracks without thought. Have a listen, and stay tuned for more D&B from Embers of Light.
Embers of Light sits down with us to chat about the meaning of his name, the correlation between his music and being Ayden Kitchen + Bar’s Head Chef, Four Corners Music, Soul Deep Recordings, Beats in Mind, the new album ‘Everything Changes’, and so much more.
WHAT DOES EMBERS OF LIGHT SYMBOLIZE?
EMBERS OF LIGHT: From a small ember you can create a great fire which will give you light. That’s essentially how I feel my music is. A small idea or sample loop that starts off very small and grows to a finished track and I feel like I am that small ember that has the capability to become that huge roaring fire!
YOU ARE ORIGINALLY FROM THE UK, DID YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH D&B IN THE UK?
EMBERS OF LIGHT: I’ve been obsessed with Drum and Bass since I was 16 years old in Birmingham, listening to the Pirate Radio Station Kool FM Midlands and especially DJ Devize. When I first heard Adam F’s Metropolis on Metalheadz, I knew i had found my genre although you will catch me listening to a lot of Post Grunge early 2000’s Hard Rock and Hip Hop to Colter Wall and Richard Ashcroft. I love good music!
HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH FOUR CORNERS MUSIC?
EMBERS OF LIGHT: Sonny aka Melinki and me have been facebook mates for a few years, we worked together on a track when I used to be called Basic Forces and he is a big supporter of my music. When he started Four Corners I knew I wanted to be a part of it! I had my first LP ‘Caught In A Deep Thought’ release with Four Corners last year.
Introducing Coors Slice – Available in Orange and Lime – Now with a partner in Lime, Coors Slice Orange welcomed the newest flavour to the Coors Slice family in early 2020. Think about this: Imagine the classic crisp Coors Taste with just a hint of citrus. When you take a sip, it’s like shouting “Coors!” from the foot of the Rocky Mountains and having “lime” or “orange” echo back. Give them a try, they are available in varying pack quantities, including the mixer pack!
Just a hint of citrus – 4.2% alcohol.
WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO PRODUCE MUSIC WITH OTHERS?
EMBERS OF LIGHT: Working with artists such as Philth and 2SHYMC was such a learning curve for me. I have worked with Phil before and normally it’s me sending him an idea or sketch that he just flips around and makes it into a masterpiece. I am fortunate to be able to work with such talented guys
WHAT DOES SOUL DEEP RECORDINGS MEAN TO YOUR CAREER?
EMBERS OF LIGHT: Soul Deep Recordings and Scott Allen will always be my favourite Liquid Drum and Bass Label. He treats his artists with the utmost respect and he pays for your music! That’s very unheard of, believe it or not. He is no nonsense, He either likes your music or he doesn’t and isn’t afraid to tell you.
WHAT IS BEATS IN MIND? WHY IS THIS PLATFORM IMPORTANT?
EMBERS OF LIGHT: Beats In Mind was created by Marissa aka Pyxis in 2020, it is a label focused on Mental Health Awareness in Drum And Bass. I’ve suffered with severe bouts of depression and anxiety in my life, so this was a no brainer for me. Being involved was a must! They are on VOL 4 right now and I am sure it could keep going to VOL 100. There are so many artists that want to work with her and release great Drum and Bass while supporting the cause!
AS THE HEAD CHEF OF AYDEN KITCHEN + BAR,
DOES YOUR CREATIVITY IN THE KITCHEN HELP CREATE INSPIRATION FOR YOUR MUSIC? HOW DO BOTH PASSIONS COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER?
EMBERS OF LIGHT: Making music is my escape from the day to day life of a chef. You have to be creative and on your toes in the kitchen and this also goes with music. You need to follow the trends and evolve your art so in some way they both meet.
WHY DID YOU FEEL IT WAS THE RIGHT TIME TO FINALLY RELEASE AN ALBUM?
EMBERS OF LIGHT: I was actually just planning on releasing a single and because of Quarantine I just had all this free time to write and create, despite the current situation it was such a great time for me musically.
