WE SUPPORT SASKATCHEWAN’S ENTERTAINMENT & MUSIC SCENE

Whether it’s reaching out to a newly released project, musician or creating a spotlight for local talent to be heard on any of our stages, as well as opportunities to be heard opening for larger acts on our full-venue stage. We look forward to reopen and launch our newest concepts that strongly support the local music in our city. The local music scene is super important to us – we are a small city, but we have big dreams. Let’s grow and support each other – putting Saskatchewan on the map for premium music and entertainment experience.

DOING IT ON HIS OWN,  A R I E  CREATES NEW MUSIC

A R I E  is Liam Arie Santha. Calling Saskatoon home, A R I E  had used his spare time wisely during lockdown. The Singer/Songwriter/Producer released a full album titled ‘Thisiswhatiwantmylifetosoundlike’ on August 31st 2020. The success of his first-ever release was not only outstanding, but believe it or not – Liam Arie Santha let the world know that the album was entirely recorded on his phone. Fuelled with energy from the release, A R I E  later released two more singles titled “The World Is Ending” (October 11 2020) and “Thief” (November 6th 2020). Accompanying the track “Thief” comes an intimate music video showcasing the simplicity of the strum of the guitar and the soft spoken lyrics. A R I E  is creating music for himself for others to enjoy. Stay tuned for more, A R I E  is here to stay and we cannot wait to see where he takes this project.

A R I E  joins us to chat about the process of creating his album during the pandemic, his early beginnings in music, creative process, the newest single ‘Thief’, what he wants people to experience while listening to his music, his plan for his project in the next 5 years, and so much more.

HOW DID YOU DECIDE ON YOUR NAME?

A R I E: “A R I E” is actually my middle name! Taken from my Dutch heritage.

WHAT INFLUENCES YOUR MUSIC?

A R I E: A big influence for me was growing up listening to a wide variety of music genres.

IS THIS YOUR FIRST MUSIC PROJECT?

HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED IN MUSIC YOUR WHOLE LIFE?

A R I E: This is my first actual project! I have been involved with music my whole life. Everything from guitar lessons to  jam sessions with friends, and even playing at the occasional event once in a while.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO RECORD YOUR ALBUM USING YOUR PHONE?

WHAT CHALLENGES DID YOU ENCOUNTER WHILE CREATING THISISWHATIWANTMYLIFETOSOUNDLIKE?

A R I E: The pandemic is a serious bummer, but it is the main reason I started making music. With the initial lockdown I had troubles finding ways to record my music. I simply got creative in finding ways to record, layer, and put effects onto my sound just by using an app called “Voloco”. The hardest part was playing each recorded layer perfectly front to back.

HOW DID YOU LEARN THESE RECORDING TECHNIQUES?

ARE YOU SELF TAUGHT? OR DID YOU ACQUIRE MORE AUDIO KNOWLEDGE? ANY GUIDANCE FOR OTHER ARTISTS LOOKING TO RECORD THIS WAY?

A R I E: I had a rough idea of layering guitar. Loop pedals are a great tool, but seeing as I was using my phone I had to hit record and play the song perfectly for 2-3 minutes. Once the base chords were recorded I then went over that recorded track and added some lead guitar or other cool sounds. Everything I have made has been self taught, or learned through trial and error. I highly recommend guitar players to purchase a loop pedal! But if you are willing to try and record on your phone, download the app Voloco. Voloco is a free audio app made mainly for hip-hop, R&B, and other audio related recordings.

WHAT DOES THIS PROJECT BRING TO YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS?

A R I E: It’s given me the confidence to make music in general, and do so from the comfort of my home. Branching off in this area of “phone-recording” I feel as if I can do so much more in an actual studio. All in all it’s been such a fantastic way to start my music journey!

WHAT DO YOU SEE FOR THE FUTURE OF YOURSELF AS A MUSICIAN?

DO YOU PLAN TO CREATE A LARGER DIGITAL PRESENCE? ARE YOU PLANNING TO SHOWCASE THE NEW PROJECTS ON STAGES ONCE IT IS SAFE TO DO SO?

A R I E: I believe the future of A R I E relies heavily on the support from my city! I love Saskatoon, and I know I have a ton of people supporting me. If you have your city behind you backing you up, you really can do anything. As of right now, I really am focusing on making some solid songs. But! I do hope to play them live in the future!  I released my new single “Thief”! So I guess that’s kind of the next step for me!

WHAT DO YOU HOPE PEOPLE GAIN FROM YOUR MUSIC?

A R I E: I just want people to feel safe and relaxed while listening to my music. Because when I made it that’s how I felt.

AS A NEWER ARTIST, YOU HAVE THE WHOLE WORLD AHEAD OF YOU. WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS?

A R I E: Tough question. I have dreams and goals, my goal would be that I successfully played live shows in my city. My dream would be something like.. making a song with a notable artist in the music industry. Although, if it’s going to end up with me making songs in my home I am totally alright with that!
