JORDYN POLLARD IS EMERGING INTO THE COUNTRY MUSIC CHARTS

Jordyn Pollard has emerged into the Saskatchewan Country Music with an energetic debut. Over the last year, Jordyn Pollard has made major moves with the release of the EP ‘Good On Me’ – reaching the radio charts, and major Spotify streaming numbers. The EP ‘Good On Me’ features 4-tracks and they have all received major buzz. Jordyn Pollard’s successful year has been full of opportunities for performing, featuring on the radio and writing songs. Jordyn celebrated in early 2020 with being crowned 2020 SCMA Emerging Artist of The Year, and she is just getting started.

Jordyn Pollard join us to go over her early introduction to music, success of her debut EP, performing during a pandemic, earning SCMA Emerging Artist of the Year, Chickadee Songwriter Circle with Jay Semko and Doug Sylvester, what’s next for Jordyn Pollardand so much more.

YOU GREW UP IN A SMALL-TOWN.

WHAT WAS YOU FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH MUSIC? DID YOU DREAM OF BEING WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

JORDYN: I don’t really have an exact moment that stood out as my first experience, but I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to perform and sing! My mom and dad say that I started singing and dancing before 2 and my favourite song was “Up!” by Shania Twain. I can recall watching the Lizzie McGuire movie and singing along to Hilary Duff. My parents got tickets to her show, but I fell asleep (I was 3)! I’ve always had the dream of being where I am but have also always been a very realistic person. It’s surreal to me that this is all happening!

WHAT MUSICIANS INSPIRE YOUR MUSIC?

YOU ARE AN EMERGING COUNTRY MUSIC STAR, ARE THERE ANY MUSICIANS OUTSIDE OF COUNTRY THAT INSPIRE YOUR MUSIC OR SONGWRITING?

JORDYN: I wouldn’t go as far as to call me a star! But thank you so much for that compliment! There are so many artists that inspire me, and they all do so in a different way! In terms of songwriting, I look to artists like Ed Sheeran. Ed is experimental with his lyrics and his sound and I think that it’s important to try different things and take chances. Aaron Goodvin and Taylor Swift are also geniuses when it comes to lyrics. As an entertainer, I look to artists like Carrie Underwood who take my breath away every time I see them live. I want to make people feel the same butterflies that Carrie makes feels when she sings the notes in “Just A Dream”!

YOUR SINGLE “GOOD ON ME” HAS OVER 200,000 STREAMS ON SPOTIFY.

CONGRATS ON ALL YOUR SUCCESS WHAT THAT RELEASE. WHAT ATTRIBUTED TO THE SUCCESS? HOW DOES IT FEEL TO HAVE YOUR FIRST SINGLE ‘SKY-ROCKET’ THROUGH THE CHARTS?

JORDYN: Thank you so much! It was a great first release experience and we were really lucky with this one! There was an amazing team that put their time and passion into this project and “Good On Me” wouldn’t have had any of the success it did without those who helped out and supported it! In my world, it feels like I have received a Grammy. This album has done better than ever expected and it’s crazy!

YOUR DEBUT EP, GOOD ON ME

RELEASED NOVEMBER 2019, WHAT WAS THE PROCESS OF WRITING FOR THE EP?

JORDYN: My song “That Kinda Love” is the self-written track on the EP and I wrote this when I was 15! I have always loved reading lovey dovey teen romances and watching John Hughes movies like “Pretty in Pink”. All of these movies + books became the “ideal relationship” in my mind. I had these fantasies of going to drive in movies with my boyfriend and wearing his leather jacket. Coming up with these scenarios and wishes are a part of growing up! I knew that I’d eventually record this song because I could imagine people singing it at festivals and shows. It is really important when I write songs that I can envision myself performing them and this has always been a fun song to do live!

DURING THE PANDEMIC, YOU PERFORMED A LOT.

LIVESTREAM EVENTS AND SOCIAL DISTANCED CONCERTS – YOU SEEM TO BE A GO-GETTER, NOT LETTING ANYTHING GET IN THE WAY OF YOU AND YOUR FANS. TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE DURING THESE EVENTS.

JORDYN: I’m not going to lie, it took a while to get used to the format of live-streams! I’m used to performing in front of real people, not a phone screen! I have gotten used to it and have really grown to enjoy creating the livestream shows and coming up with themes to do every once in a while. I want to be able to connect with my fans in various ways. If Covid-19 restricts live events, I will bring the show to you! It’s been great being able to interact with fans during a show and having in-between song banter! However, I can’t wait to get back onstage! The connection to the crowd and feeling of being onstage can’t be replaced.

YOU ARE THE 2020 SCMA EMERGING ARTIST OF THE YEAR.

ROLLING INTO THE SASKATCHEWAN COUNTRY MUSIC SCENE AND RECEIVING THAT AWARD PROBABLY FEELS SURREAL. WHAT SASKATCHEWAN COUNTRY MUSICIANS HAVE YOU LOOKED UP TO? DID THIS PROPEL ANY AMBITION?

JORDYN: There are two artists that stand out to me in the Saskatchewan country music scene: Jess Moskaluke and Tenille Arts. I watched Jess’ YouTube channel as she was rising into country stardom! As a young girl, I always thought it was so cool that a girl from rural Saskatchewan was making it big! She has always had such a killer voice. I saw Tenille perform for the first time on “The Bachelorette” and fell in love with her music. Maybe it was the circumstances?… Tenille Is an amazing songwriter with a very distinct fashion style, beautiful voice and a heart of gold! I was inspired by their humble rise to the top. After spending time within the Saskatchewan country music scene, I can say that I have been introduced to quite a few more influential individuals.

YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE PART IN THE CHICKADEE SONGWRITER’S CIRCLE.

WORKING ALONGSIDE DOUG SYLVESTER AND JAY SEMKO – WHAT WAS YOUR TAKE AWAY FROM THIS OCCASION?

JORDYN: I realized that I really do know songs by the Northern Pikes and that I really appreciate country music in Saskatchewan and the people that are a part of it. I also learn a lot from Doug Sylvester’s songwriting! He writes about everything and anything! I am so honoured to be in the presence of such intelligent and talented people.

CLIMBING THE RADIO CHARTS WITH THE TRACKS FROM THE EP.

WHEN WAS THE FIRST TIME YOU HEARD YOUR MUSIC ON THE RADIO? HOW DOES IT FEEL TO HAVE YOUR NAME NEXT TO LUKE COMBS, FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE, KEITH URBAN AND SO MANY OTHER LEGENDARY MUSICIANS?

JORDYN: I actually heard my song for the first time at Country100.7 FM when they played my single after one of my first radio interviews! When I heard it for the first time on the radio in my car, I was driving home from one of my college lectures and was at a stop sign! I’m surprised I didn’t crash! It feels absolutely surreal to be next to such legendary musicians. I look up to each and everyone of them and I am very humbled by all of the support!

THE SINGLE “BACK TO US” ENTERED RADIO RECENTLY.

WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE SONG? WHAT INSPIRED THE SONG-WRITING?

JORDYN: This song was written was Abby Cone, Mark Bright and Victoria Banks. My manager, Angie Morris, and producer, Bart McKay, and I chose this song as it reflected the life changes that I was going through at the time. I was approaching high school graduation and was looking back on the friendships and lessons learned. This song reflects that feeling of nostalgia when you look back on old times!

WHAT’S NEXT FOR JORDYN POLLARD?

JORDYN: I am working on a new release with my team! Songs are always being written and sung, so there will be something coming in the future! I have a show in Forget, Saskatchewan and the well-known Happy Nun Cafe in November 14th! More dates will be released on my social media soon!
