WE SUPPORT SASKATCHEWAN’S ENTERTAINMENT & MUSIC SCENE
Whether it’s reaching out to a newly released project, musician or creating a spotlight for local talent to be heard on any of our stages, as well as opportunities to be heard opening for larger acts on a full-venue stage. We look forward to assist and launch newest concepts that strongly support the local music in this province. The local music scene is super important to us – we are a small province, but we have big dreams. Let’s grow and support each other – putting Saskatchewan on the map for premium music and entertainment experience.
WORKING IT OUT WITH MEGAN NASH
Megan Nash is a well-established singer and songwriter, who is still engaging and evolving in the Treaty 4 Territory in Southern Saskatchewan. Megan Nash has been busy with her band, The Best of Intentions. They have been staying connected during the current state of the music industry – recording while continuing to work on an album to release in the hopefully near future. These moves of continual growth of her music legacy didn’t happen over night. She has been putting in hard work in the Saskatchewan Music Scene for years, all while receiving accolades and acknowledgement all over. The album “Seeker” received a Juno Nomination for Contemporary Roots Album of The Year. Megan set sail to tour Europe shortly after this nomination in 2019, learning and growing as a songwriter. The newest single “Quiet” was written during her European stay, and was released in 2021. Accompanying the release of this heartfelt track – Megan released her visual offering to balance the song. The music video makes you want to get up, visit your nearest parking lot and join in the work. We cannot wait for more from Megan Nash and we look forward to a not-so-quiet year for her and her bandmates.
Megan Nash connects with us to talk about the inspirations of her songwriting, how the prairies influence her songwriting, and how playing overseas has impacted her perspective on life. We learn a very helpful tour tip, that eventually leads into a tour memory while in Germany. Megan Nash shares where and how she went about writing her newest single “Quiet”, which released on January 26th 2021. We chat what’s to come with her music, future, and what she is looking forward to in 2021.
The newest music video for “Quiet” was filmed by Hot Tag Films. The video features Megan Nash and Dalton Lam executing heavily coordinated fitness rituals. Megan Nash lets us know what she was going for when she decided to put out the video. She shares her personal connection with movement while coping with emotions. Check out our conversation, and so much more.
YOUR VOICE IS GUIDING LISTENERS THROUGH THEMES AND STORIES.
MUSIC IS HEALING FOR MANY PEOPLE. WHEN YOU WRITE YOUR SONGS YOU PUT IT ALL ON THE TABLE WITH AN EXPLANATION, MEANING AND YOUR EMOTION. WHAT INSPIRES YOUR SONGWRITING? HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE A ROLE MODEL TO MANY OTHER SINGERS AND SONGWRITERS IN SASKATCHEWAN?
MEGAN NASH: In a lot of ways, my songwriting is how I unpack my own experiences and to try to understand my own emotions. I am heavily inspired by the prairies. I live on Treaty 4 Territory in Southern Saskatchewan. Long walks on gravel roads and taking a moment to watch the moon are apart of my songwriting process. As far as being a role model goes, I don’t feel that! That’s nice of you to say and it’s an honour if folks do feel that way. I’m just trying to create a body of work that I feel is honest to my own experiences. I have to be open and honest with my songs, show all the icky bits, and if that resonates with people then I’m very lucky.
“NOTHING LIKE GOING HALF WAY AROUND THE WORLD TO GAIN PERSPECTIVE”
– MEGAN NASH
FOLLOWING YOUR 2019 JUNO NOMINATION
FOR CONTEMPORARY ROOTS ALBUM OF THE YEAR FOR ‘SEEKER’, YOU SET OFF TO TOUR ESTONIA, PORTUGAL AND GERMANY. HOW DID THAT EXPERIENCE IMPACT YOUR MUSIC CAREER?
MEGAN NASH: I have been so fortunate to have had the chance to play music overseas several times now. All of those experiences have impacted not only my career but my personal life as well. I have met so many wonderful people! My travels overseas have influences my songs too. I wrote “Quiet” in my journal in a little cafe in a small village in Germany. There is nothing like going half way around the world to gain perspective.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE TOUR MEMORY FROM THAT EURO TOUR?
MEGAN NASH: Pro tour tip: always pack a swimsuit. I use it as extra padding for my guitar in its case when travelling. I told the audience in Munich, Germany this tour tip and the band that also performed that night told me that we were going swimming after the show. I thought they were joking but no, we definitely got into a camper van, went to a lake, and went swimming at midnight. It was so great.

YOUR NEW SINGLE “QUIET” RELEASED ON JANUARY 26TH 2021.
“QUIET” TAILGATED THE 2020 RELEASE OF “ARTIFACT”, AND YOUR CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED ALBUM ‘SEEKER’. IS THIS TRAIL OF NEW RELEASES LEADING TO AN ALBUM? WHAT CAN WE EXPECT?
MEGAN NASH: It has been so great to release new music. I’m so fortunate that my band and I are in situations where we can record from our homes and continue to work on an album during this time. We don’t have a date set yet but there will be more music coming your way.
“I GRAVITATE TOWARDS MOVEMENT TO HELP ME COPE”
– MEGAN NASH
THE MUSIC VIDEO FOR “QUIET” WAS FILMED IN VARIOUS PARKING LOTS, CAPTURING ACTUAL WORKOUTS AND MOTIVATING ENERGY.
THE SONG LYRICS ARE FUELLED BY HEARTBREAK, UNCERTAINTY AND LONGING FOR CLOSURE. WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO PUT TOGETHER A VIDEO FULL OF FUN, AND FULL OF UPBEAT QUIRKY WORKOUT MANEUVERS TO ACCOMPANY A SONG FULL OF FEELING?
MEGAN NASH: When I am at my lowest and going through something really hard, I gravitate towards movement to help me cope. I love to dance. Practicing movement as self care is really important to me and I wanted to express that with this video. Pairing a breakup song with a workout video makes complete sense to me.
YOU WRAPPED UP A SUCCESSFUL 2020
WITH 62.3K STREAMS IN 61 COUNTRIES ON SPOTIFY. SASKATCHEWAN IS FULL OF BIG DREAMERS WITH A LOT OF TALENT. WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST DREAM FOR YOUR MUSIC CAREER? AND WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE 2021 GO FOR YOUR NEXT COUPLE STEPS?
MEGAN NASH: I want to release music that resonates with people. When it is safe, I would love to be able perform and sing for people in person again! I have my fingers crossed for some drive in shows. I had the opportunity to play a sold out drive in show last year for the Regina Folk Fest. It was so great.
